Working in a residential children's home can be highly rewarding because you play a direct, hands-on role in helping young people overcome adversity and build brighter futures.
Â
Every day brings the chance to form genuine, trusting relationships with children and young people, many of whom have faced significant challenges. Seeing them begin to feel safe, grow in confidence, develop new skills and take steps towards their own ambitions is deeply fulfilling.

A Typical Day At Whitmore House
No two days are ever the same… and that’s half the fun! One minute you’re making breakfast, making sure teeth are brushed and hunting for a missing school shoe. The next, you’re heading out for an activity, helping with homework or having one of those all-important chats.
Â
There’ll be cooking, games, sports, music, plenty of laughs and probably a debate over what’s going on TV! Of course, there are tougher moments too. That’s when you become the calm person in the room, listening, supporting and helping a young person get through a difficult day.
Â
You’ll celebrate the little wins that are actually BIG wins, trying something new, getting through a hard day, smashing a goal or simply choosing to sit and have a chat. And somewhere amongst all that… yes, there’s paperwork! It’s busy. It’s unpredictable. It can be challenging. But most importantly, you get to be part of someone’s journey.
